Updates to electricity charges
Network tariffs
The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) explains that changes in network tariffs happen for a few reasons. These include how much network distributors plan to spend over a five-year period, any rewards or penalties they receive, and adjustments for over- or under-collection of revenue in previous years, along with the inflation rate. In some cases, your distributor may assign your site a new tariff code. You can read more about it on the AER website.
Energy market fees and charges
AEMO is a not-for-profit organisation operating on a cost-recovery basis. The increase in AEMO fees reflects the increase in their budget as the market operator to ensure Australians have access to affordable, secure, and reliable energy. They're investing in upgrades to their systems, boosting their security, making the market run smoothly, and working on future improvements. Find out more about it on the AEMO website.
Network tariffs are revised every financial year. Network distributors will submit proposals to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), which reviews them, conducts compliance checks, and approves the changes.
Energy market fees are also reviewed every financial year. AEMO publishes a draft budget and fee structure for consultation before finalising and publishing it.
The updated network tariffs and energy market fees are effective from 1 July 2025, and we sent you a notice via email before your next bill to inform you of the changes.
You can find the detailed breakdown of network tariffs on the AER website or on each distributor’s website.
You can find out who your network distributor is on the first page of your Flo bill, under “Need help?” and “Faults & Emergencies.”
